Afghanistan's general election is only a few hours away, but deadly insurgent attacks continue unabated. On Wednesday morning, three armed fighters stormed a building in the capital Kabul, firing indiscriminantly before being killed by the police.

According to the Interior Ministry, three militants occupied a building in central Kabul. Police stormed the building and killed them following a fierce fire fight. The attack follows a daily string of suicide blasts and rocket attacks since last Saturday, as Taliban insurgents make good on their threat to disrupt the presidential election on Thursday. In all, 14 civilians have been killed and 140 injured in the pre-election violence.
