The Beijing Olympic Games had the world famous "Water Cube". Not to be outdone, the 2010 Shanghai World Expo will have the "Oil Cube". It is the first pavilion of the 17 museums for the Shanghai World Expo to complete its main structure.

The "Oil Cube" museum is built on the theme of "Petrol, the Extension of City Dreams". It covers an area of more than 4,000 square meters. The "Oil Cube" was constructed with polycarbonate, a material different from traditional designs. During the daytime, the building is a light blue pavilion with petrol tubes weaving together.

At night, it transforms into a shining "Oil Cube". Visitors can walk into the museum to see a music fountain, and then move onto a 4D cinema journey. Visitors will be taken back to ancient history, to see the evolution of oil. The "Oil Cube" was jointly constructed by China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petrochemical Corporation and China National Offshore Oil Corporation.
