Strong earthquake hits Indonesia

Indonesia's seismology agency says it has recorded a powerful earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale occurred in Java, Indonesia, on Wednesday.

The quake struck at 07:55 GMT on the southern coast of the main island of Java, Tasikmalaya, at a depth of around 60 kilometers. Buildings in Tasikmalaya, the town closest to the epicenter, were damaged.

The powerful earthquake also caused buildings to sway in Indonesia's capital, Jakarta. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Meanwhile, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said it was powerful enough to have caused a local tsunami, but there were no reports of high waves.
