The US envoy to Afghanistan, Richard Holbrooke, has played down concerns over accusations of fraud by Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

Holbrooke is meeting with 26 international envoys in Paris, to discuss Afghanistan's future. He says irregularities are normal in any democratic system.

He used the example of a senatorial election in the US state of Minnesota, that took months to settle.

Holbrooke says he had "no problem" dealing with Karzai when votes were still being counted. Other candidates have filed hundreds of complaints, alleging fraud and voter intimidation.
