Visiting Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo and US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton are calling for closer bilateral cooperation on a wide range of issues. They also say as two major world economies, the cooperation between China and the US will play a constructive role to help revive the global economy.
US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton was the first to speak at a welcome dinner Thursday. She says it's her and President Obama's shared belief that a new era has come in China-US relations. And building a strong relationship with China is a central goal of the Obama administration.
She noted China and the US bear a heavy responsibility to cooperate in solving the world's toughest problems.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said, "Our respective priorities and policies have a global impact and therefore we have a responsibility to ourselves and others to work as effectively as we can to meet the threats and seize the opportunities of the 21st century."
Clinton also says the US is ready to work closer with China to solve some of the world's thorny issues, including the nuclear issue of the DPRK and Iran, as well as the fight against pandemic diseases.
In his speech, Wu Bangguo highlighted several priority fields to strengthen bilateral ties.
NPC standing Committee chairman Wu Bangguo said, "It is of particular importance for us to step up efforts in the following three areas. The first is to enhance cooperation in a joint response to the international financial crisis. We should increase communication and coordination on macro-economic and financial policies, and promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation."
Clinton also announced that US and China will soon hold talks about joint efforts on counter-terrorism.
