Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has met with Belgian King Albert the second and the European Commission President, Jose Manuel Barroso. This is the first part of Xi's five-nation tour of Europe.
Xi Jinping told the king that China appreciates the Royal family's commitment to improving Sino-Belgium ties. He hopes his visit will help build political trust and co-operation between the two countries.
Xi said the Europalia Chinese Art Festival, which opened in Belgium on Thursday, will promote mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.
Xi also introduced China's achievements over the last 60 years. These include China's policies and concepts on promoting scientific development and the vision of building a harmonious world. Xi also told the King how China has been tackling the financial crisis.
King Albert the second told Xi he was impressed by China's National Day celebrations, as well as China's achievements.
He said the Royal family values Xi's visit and will do what it can to promote the development of ties.
The King also said Belgium will actively take part in the 2010 Shanghai Expo.
