Chinese Vice President Xi starts 2nd leg of official tour in Germany

Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has arrived in the German city of Dresden, capital of the state of Saxony. The visit is the second leg of his 5 European nation tour.

In a written statement issued at the airport upon arrival, Xi Jinping says China and Germany have enjoyed long-term friendship, and that relations have made new progress in recent years with fruitful cooperation.

He says bilateral relations are facing new opportunities for further development.

Xi Jinping says he looks forward to exchanging views with German leaders, on bilateral ties and other issues of common concern. He says he wants to have a better understanding of Germany, to push the relationship forward.

Xi Jinping also met with Stani-slaw Til-lich, head of the German state of Saxony.

Xi says Saxony has been keeping close ties with China, as the state has conducted cooperation with Chinese cities regarding their economies, environmental protection, social security, culture and education.

He says the Chinese government fully supports regional cooperation, calling it key to the development of Sino-German relations.
