Winter has hit northern Europe early. And snow has been falling in parts of Poland.

In the northeastern Podlasie province, heavy sleet damaged electricity lines, leaving some 75-thousand people without power.

In the southern Zakopane resort, snow continued falling on Wednesday. 20 centimeters of snow had already fallen there and in the surrounding Tatra Mountains overnight on Monday.

Temperatures there dropped to below zero degree Celsius. Weather forecasters said the snow falling could stay until Friday.

Authorities have warned hikers that conditions in the mountains could be very difficult.
