From New York to Tokyo, tens of thousands of Michael Jackson fans have taken in the premiere of "This Is It."

Some cinema-goers dressed like their musical hero as they danced to such iconic songs as "Beat It" and "Billie Jean." The film is receiving high praise from fans. The footage was shot as Jackson prepared for a marathon concert run in London that never happened.

Most of the material was intended for the singer's private use, but now serves as the last bow of a performer who ruled the pop charts in the 1980s.

In the Chinese cities of Beijing and Shanghai, fans are also waiting in long lines for the premiere. Many say it's a day to reminisce. The movie is currently scheduled for a two-week run in theaters around the world.
