Opposing political factions resumed talks in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, on Thursday.
Both sides are expressing hope that a deal will soon be reached to end a power crisis that has paralyzed the country since a June 28th coup.
Honduran police, meanwhile, fired tear gas to disperse approximately 1,000 marching supporters of ousted President Manuel Zelaya as they neared the hotel where the discussions are taking place.
The two factions returned to the negotiating table a day after visiting US diplomats urged both sides to be more flexible in finding a solution before November's previously scheduled presidential election.
One Zelaya representative says that an agreement could be signed calling for the Honduran Congress to decide whether to restore the deposed leader.
