Saudi weapon haul linked to militants

Authorities there, have discovered large quantities of weapons belonging to an al-Qaida network.

The discovery, in the capital Riyadh, included over 281 assault rifles and 51 ammunition boxes. They were found buried in a vacant house.

Police learned about the cache after investigating a group of al-Qaida suspects they arrested in August.

Saudi Arabia is the birthplace of Osama bin Laden and home to 15 of the 19 September 11th hijackers.

Al-Qaida has called for attacks on the kingdom's oil facilities, as a means of crippling both the kingdom's economy and hurting the West.

The Saudi government has pursued an aggressive campaign against militants since 2003, when attacks first began in the country.
