Police have finally, arrested one of the country's most wanted Mafia bosses. This deals a heavy blow to one of the most powerful mafia families in the region around Naples.
Pasquale Russo is considered one of Italy's top 10 Mafia fugitives.
He was convicted in absentia and sentenced to life in prison for 13 homicides and criminal association with the Mafia.
The 62-year-old had been on the run since 1993. He was arrested on Sunday at a remote farmhouse near Sperone, about 80 kilometers north of Naples.
Police said the arrest of the crime boss was part of a wider Mafia crackdown.
Mario Cinque, Provincial Department Chief, said, "In this way, there is no longer the top level of the organization. Until now, it had been prevalent in that area. However, our activities will not stop or be slowed down because the fugitives have been caught."
Russo is the chief of the Russo clan. The group is a leading player in the Camorra - a criminal organization with a multi-billion dollar turnover. It is considered more powerful today than the Sicilian Mafia.
A shocking video released on Thursday showed a Camorra member shooting a man in the neck outside a bar.
Residents in Naples are familiar with the violence carried out by the notorious crime family.
But the Russo Clan is gradually tumbling. Pasquale's brother, Salvatore, was arrested on Saturday. A third brother, Carmine, was arrested on Sunday.
