Special Report: UN climate change conference in Copenhagen |

In Washington, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is urging the international community to take common action to fight against climate change, saying there is "no time to lose."

In a speech to the US Congress on Tuesday, Merkel called on the international community to reach an agreement on preventing global warming at a UN conference in Copenhagen in December. She noted that an agreement should be reached on realizing this objective: global warming must not exceed 2 degrees Celsius. On the same day, Merkel met with President Barack Obama in the White House. They reaffirmed the U.S.-German alliance on dealing with common challenges ranging from climate change to nuclear non-proliferation.
