Karadzic makes his first court appearance

Former Bosnian Serb leader, Radovan Karadzic appeared at his UN war crimes trial Tuesday, for the first time since the trial began last week.

Karadzic, who is facing 11 charges, including two for genocide during the 1992-95 Bosnian war, boycotted the first three days of the trial.

Karadzic is claiming his fundamental rights have been violated by judges who started the trial without him. He argues, he needs more time to prepare his defense.

The prosecution is portraying Karadzic as the supreme commander of a campaign to kill Muslims and Croats from territories claimed by Bosnian Serbs. Karadzic insists he is innocent of all charges.
