South Korea is considering a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The presidential committee on green growth presented the government with proposals to achieve this goal.
One proposal sets the target for greenhouse gas reduction at 27 percent by 2020, and the other sets it at 30 percent. The final decision will be made at a Cabinet meeting November 17th.
President Lee Myung-Bak says efforts to reduce greenhouse gases should not impair economic development, and setting a higher target could ultimately contribute to the nation's economy.
The government seeking measures to promote green cities and green buildings. They also aim to reform the nation's transportation system to burn less carbon and be more eco-friendly.
