Cambodia is turning down a request from Thailand to arrest former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who is now in Cambodia to serve as an economic adviser for the government.

A statement from the Cambodian government, says the request for extradition will not be honored because the legal case against Thaksin is politically motivated, and therefore it will be not covered by the extradition treaty.

Thailand has expressed regret over Cambodia's rejection. The situation on the Thai-Cambodia border remains normal. Thailand still has no policy to close the border.
