Chinese president meets Singaporean PM, boosting furthering bilateral cooperation

President Hu Jintao is continuing his visit in Singapore. He has exchanged views on furthering bilateral cooperation with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong ahead of the APEC summit.

During his meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, President Hu Jintao pointed out that China-Singapore relations have developed smoothly and yielded mutually beneficial outcomes.

He said both countries should keep high-level contact and exchanges to lay a solid political foundation for future development of bilateral relations.

Hu pinpointed regional defense, finance and trade as key fields where China and Singapore had boosted their cooperation.

Hu also briefed Lee on China's measures in response to the global financial crisis.

He said the stable and rapid growth of China's economy had brought about more opportunities to Singapore and other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN.
