The UNICEF report also says that war-ravaged Afghanistan is the most dangerous place in the world for a child to be born in. The agency says the country has the highest infant mortality rate in the world.

Growing insecurity is also making it hard to carry out vital vaccination campaigns against polio. Teaching girls is one of the practices the Taliban forbid.

More than 300 schools in Afghanistan were attacked in the past year, leaving over 120 people dead.
