Chinese entrepreneurs convention opens

More than 3,000 Chinese businessmen from around the globe have gathered for the 10th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention in Manila. Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and visiting top Chinese political adviser Jia Qinglin attended the opening ceremony.

The theme for this year's convention is "World Prosperity through Chinese Entrepreneurship".

During the opening ceremony, Jia Qinglin spoke highly of the contributions made by overseas Chinese in helping China achieve economic prosperity.

Jia also revealed four targets he hopes the overseas Chinese entrepreneurs can work towards.

First, to continue to integrate into their local societies and contribute to the economic and social development of the host countries;

Second, to maintain the tradition of being devoted to the motherland and their hometowns and to actively engage in building a modern China;

Third, to promote exchanges across the Taiwan Straits and to advance the great cause of peaceful reunification of China;

Fourth, to bring into full play the overseas Chinese' role as a bridge in deepening mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and people around the world.
