Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, says Israeli leaders should stop "equi-vocating" on the settlement issue. He has reiterated Palestinian demands for a total settlement freeze, before peace talks can resume. His remarks came after Israeli President Peres said settlements in the West Bank are a "marginal" issue blocking the resumption of peace talks.

Salam Fayyad said, "The settlement issue is not something that is going to go away. Israeli leaders are well advised to stop equivocating on the issue if it is to be resolved. What's required is absolutely clear. Time has come for a complete recognition of the need for a comprehensive freeze on settlement building in all of the occupied Palestinian territory - especially, in and around Jerusalem."
