Iran continues large-scale war games

Iranian armed forces have continued to stage large-scale war games aimed at protecting its nuclear facilities from attack.

According to state media, the five-day drill began on Sunday and covers an area a third of the size of Iran. The exercise spreads across the central, western and southern parts of the country, with Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard, the paramilitary Basij forces affiliated with the Guard, and army units all involved.

The military says Monday's drill focused on air defense. Iran's defense ministry says it plans to design and produce its own air defense missiles.

The comments were in response to the delayed delivery of S-300 anti-aircraft missiles from Russia. These were to be a key component in Iran's air defense.

Iran complains the delay is apparently the result of Israeli and US pressure.
