Former PM of Belgium Yves Leterme to take office again

Yves Leterme has become Belgium's prime minister for a second time. He replaces Herman Van Rompuy, who has been appointed the first president of the European Union.

Leterme was the winner of the country's 2007 federal election, but struggled for nine months to form a government. He resigned last December over alleged political meddling in the break-up of financial services group Fortis.

He was absolved of any wrong-doing and has been Belgium's foreign minister since July. On Wednesday, Leterme said he's learned from past experience.
