As the new Lisbon Treaty comes into force, the 27 EU members have great expectations for regional development.

The European Commission, believes the treaty will provide significant and new benefits for Europeans and will settle the institutional debate for the foreseeable future.

Under the Lisbon Treaty, the EU Delegation of the European Commission to China is renamed the EU Delegation to China. The ambassadors of the 27 EU member states were on hand for the ceremony.

"It has taken years to make this constitution fully operational. The Lisbon Treaty is seen as a milestone in Europe's integration and political development. In light of this, many have high expectations."

The new EU leaders are their first inspiration.

Ten days ago, the European Union handed the jobs of president and foreign policy chief to two little-known compromise figures instead of global heavy hitters.

Belgium's Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy was chosen as President of the European Council. He promised to listen to all EU members.

Some say that instead of a leading power figure, his role is more like a negotiator, which is quite crucial for the post.

The treaty also aims to develop swifter, more consistent decision-making on law and order issues through effective and streamlined institutions. It gives the EU greater ability to combat crime, terrorism and human trafficking.

Ambassadors say the treaty is also being cheered by ordinary people because it ensures they have their say in European affairs. So far, the positive voices are quite overwhelming, and the ambassadors hope the treaty will be fully implemented to speed up integration. LQ, CCTV.
