Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the Russian city of Sochi, to discuss the Middle East peace process.

Medvedev, said they discussed "a whole range of international issues", but focused on the Middle East peace settlement. Abbas said that up to now, "no formula" has been found to move the process forward.

Russian media reported the country's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, saying that Moscow could host a meeting of the Quartet of Mid-east peace mediators next month. The Quartet includes Russia, the US, the UN and the EU. Unlike other members, Russia supports the involvement of Hamas in peace talks.
