Celebrations for the Chinese Lunar New Year have been taking place in many German cities. In the capital, Berlin, crowds gathered at the 140-year-old Berliner Rathausa to celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival.

Around 400 people, mainly civic officials, business leaders and local Chinese-German people attended. They watched Chinese entertainment including martial arts, music recitals, classical dances, and acrobatics. Traditional Chinese handicrafts were also on display to help broaden Germany's understanding of the country's culture.

Dr. Richard Meng, Berlin State Secretary, said, "It's great for both Beijing and Berlin to hold the activity, and more communication can deepen understanding."
