Special Report: 8.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Chile |

The massive earthquake and aftershocks are causing chaos among people in Chile's second largest city of Concepcion. Some have raided local supermarkets and storage facilities.

While some took basic necessities: dehydrated milk, nappies and other toiletries, others went off with electrical appliances, from kitchen stoves to plasma-screen televisions.

This particular supermarket said it would handout essentials to residents. But many pre-empted this by forcing a storage area open and taking whatever they could.

Police used water cannon and tear gas to scatter people. Local authorities have reportedly decided to distribute basic items to women only to avoid similar incidents.
