The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called on Israelis and Palestinians to begin negotiations immediately. China has also voiced its support for the international efforts to galvanize the Middle East peace process.

Briefing members of the Security Council on his recent trip to the Middle East, the UN chief said peace negotiations must start without delay.

Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General, said, "There is no alternative to negotiations for a two-state solution. The goal should be to resolve all final status issues within 24 months."

Ban Ki-moon appealed to the international community to continue to play a crucial role in the talks, saying he feels there is strong consensus on the way forward.
