Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech in which he appealed for the global nuclear security architecture to be strengthened. We talked to a Brazilian and a Russian nuclear expert, who both spoke highly of the speech.

China and Brazil share a lot in common in regards to nuclear safety issues, as they are both developing countries.

According to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy, Brazil ranks sixth in the world in proven uranium reserves. However, the country has only two nuclear power plants in operation for now. That only accounts for 3 percent of the country's total electrical generating capacity.

China, on the other hand, has advanced technology and experience in the safe operation of nuclear power. That has prompted Brazil to consider China as a cooperative partner in expanding its nuclear power plants.

China and Russia have been cooperating in nuclear sectors since the beginning of the 1990s. Alexander Uvarov has witnessed the cooperation between the two countries in terms of a series of projects, and he is impressed by the responsibility shown by President Xi's speech.
