South Korean speed skating champion Noh dies from cancer

South Korean Noh Jin-Kyu has passed away at the tender age of 23. The world record holder in the 1,500 meters and 3,000 meters lost his battle with cancer and died Sunday.

Noh was born in 1992. By the time he was 18, was dominating, winning gold in every race except the 500m at the world championships in Shanghai. He set the 1,500m world record there, and the 3000m record the following week in Warsaw. Noh would have competed in 2014 Sochi Olympics, but was ruled out of the Games because a broken elbow.

After further inspection, it was discovered he had a five-inch malignant tumor in his shoulder.
