Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says the countries directly involved in the South China Sea issues should seek a common deal -- one which can be accepted by both sides. He also said other irrelevant parties should stop any actions that might increase tensions in the region. Lavrov made the remarks at a press conference before he is due to visit various Asian countries. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs have hailed his remarks.

"We are pleased with the remarks made by Russia. Anyone, any organization or any country, who is concerned about the South China Sea issue, should support a resolution through dialogue, should support China and relevant countries to negotiate according to international law and the declaration of the South China Sea. Any action trying to hype or exaggerate the conflict will not be constructive, and will veer from the normal track," Lu Kang said.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman also said the South China Sea issue has been ongoing for a long time. He emphasized that the trend of regional countries solving the issue through dialogue, and the determination to maintain regional peace and stability will not change. He added that the countries which have been making provocative remarks and actions should stop, as this goes against the quest for regional peace and stability, and may hurt the countries directly invovled.
