Cultural Passport issued for free admission to Olympic events

05-15-2016 14:42 BJT

The government of Rio de Janeiro has issued a Cultural Passport as part of its efforts to promote Brazilian culture during the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics in August.

"I think the Olympic Games serves as a huge opportunity for Brazil to demonstrate its culture, especially the culture of Rio. The Cultural Passport will not only help promote various kinds of cultural events, but it also provides an opportunity for Brazilians, because a lot of cultural activities often conclude before people find out about them. This will not happen in the future," said Eduardo Paes, Rio de Janeiro mayor.

During the Olympics, passport holders can enjoy free admission to many cultural events and activities... as well as discounts at scenic spots, museums, restaurants, and on the subway. The passport will be provided to Brazilians for free, and foreigners can apply online at a cost of 15 real, or around 4.2 US dollars.
