French Open would love to tell you all about some exciting tennis matches, but it's not going to happen. That's because for the first time in 16 years, heavy rain forced the postponement of every match, much to the frustration of the players and organizers, not to mention the thousands of fans who will be searching for refunds.

The day long deluge forced day nine of the second grand slam of the year to be cancelled in its entirety, meaning top seeds Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams must wait until Tuesday at the earliest to play their fourth round matches. Organisers will be hoping all the delayed matches can be completed then, but the weather forecast indicates this is unlikely.

More heavy rain is expected on Tuesday before a hoped-for break in the clouds on Wednesday. It's the first time since the same day 16 years ago that not a single ball has been hit for a whole day at Roland Garros. Tournament director Guy Forget noted that this is the only Grand Slam tennis venue without a roof and insisted that the situation cannot be allowed to continue.
