Ahead of his visit, President Xi Jinping published a signed article in the Uzbek newspaper Narodnoye Slove. It was also carried by the country’s Jahon news agency.

Titled “A Glorious New Chapter in China-Uzbekistan Friendship,” the article looks at past and future relations between the two nations.

Xi says China views its ties with Uzbekistan from a strategic and long-term perspective. He said jointly building the Belt and Road is a priority for the two nations adding China also appreciates Uzbekistan’s support of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, which it joined as a founding member.

Xi said the two nations need to enhance political mutual trust and support, and coordination on the international stage in bodies such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
