Luke Walton is putting the Golden State Warriors loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers behind him, and digging into his new position as the head coach of the LA Lakers. The 36-year-old spent the last two seasons as G-State's top assistant under Steve Kerr, and guided the Dubs to a 24-0 start this campaign, while his boss recovered from back surgery. That success helped Walton land his current gig, and even though he had to wait until the playoffs ended, he says he can't wait to get started in the City of Angels.

Every coach predicts exciting times when they take a new position, and Walton will be one of 10 new bosses in the NBA next season. But his job with the Lakers won't be easy with Kobe Bryant now retired. The team went just 17-65 in the recent campaign, but that awful record landed them the second pick in tomorrow's draft. Walton, Brooklyn's Kenny Atkinson, and David Fizdale of Memphis will be the only former assistants making their debuts as head men in 2016-17. The league's seven other new coaches have all led other squads in the past.
