Federer fails in his quest to add to his record total of Grand Slams. This time losing to a man nine years younger than him, and with the 34-year-old now in the twilight of his career, it begs the question will he ever win another major title?
Since his last triumph four years ago, the Swiss has not been able to win a title at the 15-majors since he won his 17th major crown. He has finished as a runner-up at the All-England Club the last couple of years, and was also a bridesmaid at the U-S Open. He has been extremely consistent, losing in the semi-finals on five occasions. And three quarter-final losses.
And there have been four early exits -- the biggest shock was a second round defeat by then World No. 116 Sergiy Stakhovsky at Wimbledon, the year after his last title on those same grass courts. So he is playing well, just not to the high standard he set for himself.
