NBA: Paul Pierce to retire at end of this season

One of the NBA's most respected players will be hanging up his sneakers at the end of this season.

Paul Pierce announcing on the Players Tribune website that the upcoming campaign will be his last in the league. He hopes to go out on top, by leading his hometown L.A. Clippers to their first championship.

The man nicknamed "The Truth" by none other than Shaquille O'Neal, spent the first 15 seasons of his pro career with the Boston Celtics.

Teaming with fellow superstars Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, Pierce was named NBA Finals MVP after leading the Green & White to the title in 2008.

It was the franchise's first championship in 22 years. The 10-time All-Star left Boston in 2013, spending the next two campaigns with Brooklyn and Washington. Pierce joined former Celtics coach Doc Rivers with the Clippers last season.
