Despite the vast distance between China and Chile, the two nations have long enjoyed a thriving bilateral trade cooperation. China is now Chile's largest trading partner, largest export destination and largest buyer of copper products. The majority of China's imported goods from the Latin American country are food and drinks, including fresh fruits such as blueberries and grapes.

Chile's salmon exports surged a staggering 112 percent in the last five years. Chilean wines are also a favorite amongst Chinese consumers. Last year, bottled wine exports to China were up by 46 percent.

Chile, on the other hand, was the first Latin American country to sign a Free Trade Agreement with China. Bilateral trade amounted to 31.8 billion US dollars last year, nearly five times as much as in 2005 when the FTA was signed.
