BARCELONA, March 2 (Xinhua) -- The Mobile World Congress (MWC) closed on Thursday after four days of exhibition, in which Chinese companies actively participated.
Chinese firms led presentations on new devices and also launched new technologies. It was recognized through the Global Mobile Awards as Chinese company Huawei received three prizes.
Among the so-called Oscars of the mobile phone industry, Huawei gained the award of the "Best Mobile Infrastructure", "Best Technology Enabler" and "Outstanding contribution for LTE Evolution to 5G",in the category of "Best Mobile Technology".
Huawei was also part of the "Innovation City" this year in which it showed some of the latest innovations on 5G, drones, apart from launching new devices including smartphones and a smart watch.
Visitors could also learn about at the "Innovation City" the latest technology to protect the ocean environment, on security and automotive connectivity.
"I am especially interested in connected cars and I have seen great advances in safety issues...and I think it is very useful for us and it is an advantage for the next years," Santi Alvarez, a worker of a ICT company said to Xinhua.
"It is a congress that surprises you, it is a universe and every year there are thousands of new things, there are new providers with new interesting technologies. So I am leaving with a good impression and in principle, I will come back next year,"Alvarez said.
The other Chinese companies hitting headlines this year included ZTE which presented the world's first smartphone with a download speed of up to 1Gbps, while OPPO and Meizu presented new technology on photography and record-breaking 20-minute full charging time for a 3,000 mAh cell respectively.
Several small and medium-sized enterprise (SMEs) from China were also present at the MWC through the digital platform DHgate.com.
Visitors not only highlighted the high technology presented by Chinese companies but also hailed the affordability of the devices, saying that they contribute to bridge the digital divide and provide a wider access to technology for people with fewer resources.
Meanwhile, experts called for cooperation and interoperability among agents within the mobile ecosystem to boost harmonization and face the challenges of the 5G era.
The MWC this year had aimed to beat last year's numbers and tried to be the biggest one ever, receiving a total of 101,000 industry professionals and gathering 2,200 exhibitors.
The GSMA, the company representing the interests of over 800 mobile operators and over 250 firms in the mobile ecosystem, had estimated the event would have an economic impact of 465 million euros (489 million U.S. dollars)and create 13,200 temporary jobs in the city.
