It is a popular question from Quora, an ask-and-answer platform. In tackling the coronavirus, countries pay price for arrogance and non-timely response, instead of social system. It is the regular pattern that caters to every country whatever the social system is.

In China, saving people's lives tops all agenda. It is the fundamental principle Chinese government has always adhered to when fighting severe epidemic, natural disasters, or crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic is a threat to the whole world, not an individual country. In the current era, all nations are interconnected and none stand as an isolated island. Measures and regulations, which have been proven effective in curbing the coronavirus spread, were good, and any government, whatever in a socialism country, or capitalism country, should be responsible for their people's health and to gain trust from them. There is no perfect social system in the world and the one that suits a country's circumstances is best. Decades of experience has proven the Communist Party of China (CPC)-led socialism with Chinese characteristics suits China best.

In early June, Xinfadi-related COVID-19 cases hit Beijing. Beijing responded in an immediate manner. Beijing Xinfadi Agricultural Produce Wholesales Market, closely connected with the emergence of the cases, together with the other five markets of the same kind, were all shut down within 48 hours after the first case was discovered. To curb the virus spread, only speed and responses matter.

Beijing Xinfadi Agricultural Produce Wholesales Market, which was shut down in mid-June due to detection of coronavirus strain, reopens on August 15.

I live in Beijing and witnessed "Beijing speed." Temporary tents were set up in outdoor stadiums, residential communities and other public places to offer COVID-19 testing for residents and company staffs free of charge. Medical staff sealed themselves in protective gear and collected samples outdoors.

Locking down a city and imposing nationwide quarantine measures would restrict people's movements and worsen the economy, but saving lives was more emergent for them at the moment.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar warned the country that time is running out to contain the spread of the coronavirus. During an interview with CNN on June 29, Alex said,

"Things are very different from two months ago. So it is a very different situation, but this is a very, very serious situation and the window is closing for us to take action and get this under control."

In tackling the coronavirus, we pay price for delayed response, not social system.
