China home to 12 wild cat species

China is home to 12 cat species, making China one of the countries in the world with richest species of wild felines, a research showed. The feline species are often considered as a health indicator of the ecosystem. Over the past few years, several institutions, including the School of Life Sciences of Peking University and Beijing Normal University, conducted a joint research on wild felines to systemically collect the population of wild feline species on China's territory, the first such research in decades in China.
