Record number of candidates to sit China's university admission exams for 2023

A record 12.91 million senior high school graduates have applied for this year's annual national university admission exams in China, also known as 'gaokao' in Chinese, marking an increase of 980,000 applicants over 2022, according to figures released by China's Ministry of Education on June 1.
