In 1969, a tomb of the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 AD - 220 AD) was unearthed beneath the Leitai, or earthen platform. In the brick-laid burial chamber lay an array of grandiose ceremonial chariots and horses. Owning a resplendent entourage for one's final journey was the epitome of prestige coveted by the noble elite during the Han Dynasty.
