The 2024 World Science and Technology Development Forum will convene in Beijing from October 22 to 24. Over 200 scientists from more than ten countries will gather to discuss a range of cutting-edge topics. Notably, over 50 female scientists and entrepreneurs will join these dialogues.

The involvement of women in scientific research continues to draw significant attention. Since the second forum, an annual roundtable dedicated to women in science has been a key feature. In 2024, the roundtable will focus on "Encouraging women's participation in science and technology", gathering female scientists from China and abroad. Notable Chinese participants include academicians Xiang Qiao, Zhu Meifang, Chen Chunying, Wu Lizhu, Duan Huiling, and Cao Xiaofeng. They will join five American scientists ,including Susan R.Wessler, Megan Robertson, and others, to share insights on how women can contribute to technological advancement and realize their personal potential.

As a key force in the scientific community, women scientists offer unique perspectives and innovative thinking that help address global challenges. According to recent statistics from the China Association for Science and Technology, there are approximately 40 million female scientists and researchers in China, accounting for 45.8% of the nation's scientific workforce.

To foster an inclusive environment for their growth, Ministry of Science and Technology of the PRC, along with 12 other government departments, launched "A Series of Measures to Support Female Talent in Playing a Greater role in Sci-tech Innovation" in 2021. In 2023, the National Natural Science Foundation of China extended the age limit for women applying for the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars while the Chinese Association for Science and Technology introduced the "Chinese Young Women in Science Award." These initiatives aim to provide greater support for women in science, enriching global innovation with diverse perspectives.
