CMG cultural documentary airs in Italy to mark 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties

A documentary series depicting Chinese President Xi Jinping's dedication to the inheritance and development of culture has debuted on mainstream Italian TV channels and media outlets, marking the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Produced by China Media Group, the documentary highlights President Xi's deep commitment to cultural heritage and development.

Through vivid storytelling, it reflects Xi's profound respect for Chinese history and his efforts to preserve and promote the nation's cultural legacy. The documentary features locations where Xi has worked or visited, including Zhengding in Hebei, Xiamen in Fujian, Hangzhou in Zhejiang and Dunhuang in Gansu.

With a rich blend of archival footage, on-the-ground filming and in-depth interviews, the series offers a multifaceted narrative of China's efforts in cultural preservation and exploration in the new era.

Speaking at the launch event on Wednesday, China Media Group (CMG) President Shen Haixiong, also vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, praised the cultural exchange between the two countries. He said the documentary invites audiences to explore the enduring vitality of Chinese culture. President Xi's inclusive vision, he added, is deeply rooted in his strong appreciation for China’s cultural heritage and his profound confidence in its value.

In recent years, CMG has drawn inspiration from President Xi's cultural philosophy to produce a wide range of acclaimed cultural programs that have resonated with audiences and achieved both social and economic success. Many of these productions focus on arts and culture, helping to share the richness of Chinese civilization with the world, Shen said.

He also noted that CMG will host a series of events aimed at giving Italian viewers a closer look at modern China, and is ready to work with its Italian partners to deepen media cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

In his remarks, Italian Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara highlighted the ancient civilizations of both countries. He said that people in Italy are eager to gain a deeper understanding of China's rich cultural heritage and the vitality of contemporary China. The documentary, he noted, will further promote mutual understanding between the two nations.

Valditara expressed hope that this opportunity would help lay a solid foundation for deeper cultural cooperation.

Chinese Ambassador to Italy Jia Guide also attended the event. He stated that the documentary, along with a series of upcoming cultural events, aims to build a bridge of mutual understanding between the two peoples, strengthening people-to-people ties and fostering lasting friendship and cooperation.
