China urges Japan to accelerate the thorough destruction of its abandoned chemical weapons (ACWs) on Chinese soil and to fulfill its due international obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press conference held in Beijing on Wednesday.
The appeal came on the 29th anniversary of the CWC's entry into force. According to its provisions, Japan shall destroy all its abandoned chemical weapons in China by 2007. However, it has missed one deadline after another.
