General John Fugh: Overcoming racial boundaries

These are the words of General John Fugh. He is the first Chinese American to attain General officer status in the US Army. After retiring from military锛宧e had a successful corporate career. Now he is taking a leadership role in promoting the full participation of Chinese Americans in all fields of American life.
General Fugh was born in Beijing, China, and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. At the age of 15, he migrated to the United States with his family. General Fugh was the Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Army, retiring from that post in July 1993 as Major General. After his retirement, General Fugh joined as a partner of the law firm McGuire, Woods, Battle and Boothe in Washington, D.C. In 1995, he served as President of McDonnell Douglas-China and was responsible for integration and strategic direction of all elements of MDC business in China. After MDC鈥檚 merger with Boeing, he served briefly as Executive Vice President of Boeing China, Inc. In 1997, General Fugh was appointed Chairman of Enron International China and assisted senior Enron executives in developing relationships with key Chinese government, industry and energy decision-makers. After retiring from Enron in 2001, General Fugh has been active in all aspects of Asian-American relations. He is Co-Chairman of the Committee of 100, a Chinese-American elite group, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Atlantic Council of the United States. In 2004, General Fugh was awarded the Chinese American Pioneer Award by the Organization of Chinese American for his illustrious accomplishment in his field and contribution to Chinese-American community.
