Guangdong win 6th CBA title in seven seasons

China's professional basketball league finals: Guangdong faced Xinjiang with a chance to win its sixth crown in seven years on Sunday.

Guangdong Hongyuan won Sunday the sixth title in seven seasons after beating Xinjiang Guanghui 103-94 in the finals of the Chinese Basketball Association league (CBA) here.

The two teams faced each other in game five of the best of seven series. Guangdong started off hot with a 9-2 run and an early lead. Xinjinag coach Jiang Xingquan of Xinjiang team called time-out only three minutes start of the match to settle his team down. Xinjiang played a more confident first quarter behind Zhu Fangyu. Guangdong still led 26-20 after the first quarter. Zhu scored 9 points in the opening stanza.

Xinjiang's Xu Guochong scored from long range in the second quarter and Xinjiang closed the gap to 4, hoping to stave-off elimination in the CBA Finals.

Guangdong came out strong in the third quarter. The defending champs scored with three big jump shots and increased their lead to nearly 20 points. Guangdong started the fourth quarter up by 21. The championship side cruised to a 103-94 victory and took another CBA title.
