Full coverage: 5th CICA Foreign Ministers' Meeting

The CICA conference is an important platform for regional dialogue on security, and China has been participating since its inception. Let's take a look at how China has expressed its voice in the previous meetings.

The first meeting of CICA Ministers of Foreign Affairs was held in 1999 in Pakistan's Almaty.

Ministers signed "The Declaration on the Principles Guiding Relations among the CICA Member States". It is one of the founding documents of CICA.

China has been actively participating. The concept of Asia Security was introduced by China, and has become one of the key topics of CICA.

The second foreign ministers' meeting took place in 2004.

China proposed four appeals in the meeting: First, to put aside all differences and seek a common interest. Second, to set up a new security concept of mutual trust and benefit, and to settle conflicts through dialogue and negotiation. Third, to adhere to multi-lateralism, and strengthen regional and sub-regional cooperation. Fourth, to deepen economic and trade cooperation by opening up markets, and promote regional economic integration.

The third meeting came four years later in 2008, with Jordan and the UAE becoming new CICA members.

During the meeting, China supported the progress on interaction and confidence-building in Asia. It vowed to played a more active role in promoting understanding and trust among member states.

The fourth foreign ministers' meeting was held in 2012 in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana.

All member states expressed support in China taking up the CICA chairmanship between 2014 and 2016.

China spoke highly of  CICA's achievements. And said it played an unique role in maintaining regional peace and stability. It called for further cooperation on issues of security and development.
