This year's WTA Finals will most likely be missing Maria Sharapova, who is provisionally banned after failing a drug test earlier 2016. And the Russian has a very notable person sticking up for her, as 18-time Grand slam winner and WTA ambassador Martina Navratilova believes that Sharapova did not take a banned substance on purpose.
The tennis legend made the comments during a promotional event for the WTA finals which is slated for October in Singapore. Navaratilova understands the importance of testing, as she spent two decades on the tennis tour and believes that the International Tennis Federation needs to make a ruling quickly on Sharapova's case, and thinks that the Russian just made an honest mistake.
