Wedding season is upon us and this year, more and more couples are choosing to tie the knot in Santorini, the Greek island made famous by the musical film, "Mamma Mia". The spot has become one of the most sought after places to get married in the world, bringing a much-welcome boost to the Greek economy, which has been struggling in recent years.
They weren't keen on a big fat wedding, but they definitely wanted a Greek one.
So they came to Santorini, the gorgeous Greek island that's become a top travel spot to tie the knot.
Chilean couple Hector and Victoria had the idea of spending a year organising their wedding having only met 6 months ago, both dreaming of a romantic marriage.
So on a beautiful June day they had a short civil ceremony on a terrace with breathtaking views of the cliffs over the Aegean Sea.
Ioannis Kavallaries is one of the three legal wedding registrars on Santorini and from April to early October, he runs from venue to venue across this island of just 28 square miles officiating marriages.
More and more couples are choosing to tie the knot in Santorini, the Greek island made famous by the musical film, "Mamma Mia".
"I've been involved with this for 20 years, since 1996, and started the weddings in Santorini. It started very slowly, with very few weddings but with the help of this beautiful view, it increased and now every year in Santorini we have more than a thousand weddings," said Ioannis Kavallaries, wedding registrar.
There are an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 weddings held here each season. All of them foreign couples, according to figures from the Santorini Civil Registry Office.
"We realised it was going to be 5 times cheaper that in Santiago and that it was never going to be as beautiful as doing it here, in Santorini, in this beautiful island. So we said to ourselves 'okay, let's get married in Greece'," said Hector, the groom.
Katerina Stamatelopoulo is the events manager at Venetsano's Winery and she says their terraces are fully booked with wedding dinners and parties for this summer. Those who want to get hitched in 2017 shouldn't wait too long to make plans.
"For next year, we have booked 20 weddings already and we have requests for 40 more," she said.
Santorini hosts all types of ceremonies. Civil and religious. Small budgets and big. For this Lebanese couple from Dubai both belong to the Orthodox Church and wanted a religious ceremony, but didn't want to turn their wedding into a huge event.
After a Greek-Orthodox ceremony in Oia the happy couple enjoyed a party of 25 on a terrace in one of Santorini's finest wineries during a spectacular sunset.
Traditional Greek dances and a few smashed plates for good luck add some Greek flavour.
